As worship leaders, we are constantly faced with the decision of whether to conform to what the music industry tells us we should sound like or to strive to produce a sound which is unique to what is going on in the church, city, or region in which we serve.
How are you handling this in you church? Where are you getting the music you use in your services?
Are you doing all the latest and greatest from the contemporary charts? Are you using only the songs written by you or your team members? Or are you doing both?
How are you allowing the culture, demographics, or diversity of ages or racial groups to define what the “sound” of your house is?
Do you even believe their is a sound that is specific to the house you are called to serve in?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Let’s talk!!!
Good points Courtney.
As for your question about the sound of your house, I believe there are many factors that go into producing the “sound” of a particular church. Some of them are:
1- Where is your church located? (country, city, north, south, east coast, west coast, etc?)
2- Who attends your church? (young, old, wealthy, middle class, ethnicity, etc?)
3- What is the vision of the leadership of your church? (evangelistic, family focused, mission focused, prophetic, etc?)
These are just a few of the factors that go into determining the sound that will be produced in your church. They are in no certain order and are by no means the only ones, but they should be considered.
Hope that helps!!
Thanks for the response!
wowza yet another great post! I find in many churches that they do what pleases the people. I do know as a worship leader you have to find what works in your house, like you said, because your job is to lead people in the presence. I also know that you have an audience of one and it is important not to become a people pleaser. Not sounding spiritual or anything, but I do feel strongly that just throwing together a set is not such a great idea I believe it’s important to seek his heart about your worship set and when you do that it will flow with the heart of the service. As far as the sound for your house…that’s a tough one. What is your say on that one? Also is all of the above correct? LOL
