The Results are in!!

Ok folks. Hope you are having a great weekend.

This week I performed an experiment. I posted two different questions on this blog. The first was asking you to finish the sentence : “A leader MUST _________________.” The second was asking you to finish the sentence: “A leader MUST NOT ____________________.”

I wanted to see which one would get the most response, and I must say, my expectation was completely proven correct.

The responses overwhelmingly came in on the side of the statement “A leader MUST NOT _____________.” And they were mostly negative in their nature such as …must not control, be arrogant, think he knows more than he does, etc.

I thought this would be the case, but I want to hear you thoughts on the subject.

Why do you think this was the case? Could it be because so many have been hurt by leaders? Could it be that we expect our leaders to be something they cannot be? Could it be that we are holding on things we should have let go of such as bitterness, unforgiveness, past hurts, disappointments, etc? Or could it be all of the above?

I’m really not trying to stir anything up here. I just want to know what you think???

Let’s talk!!!

I believe many people answer that question negatively because of the hurt that they have experienced from leadership in the past.. The greastest thing that happened to me is being put in a position where I must lead.. It let me understand that leaders are not perfect at all, and truly will always be learning and growing as a leader.. The burden of a leader can be very strong especially in ministry because we want to better the lives of the people under us. Listen we got to understand that leaders are not perfect but as Christians God put them in our lives and we should be thankful, and pray for them constantly, and be able to truly forgive and forget..

As leaders we must always realize that it’s not about promotion but about people… We was called from the people for the people, yet many have been hurt by leaders who have seen those under them as a means to an end… I heard this the other night and it hit me hard.. As leaders we haven’t been placed over others but under them to push them up.. That should be our hearts.

Love the blog by the way!

So did anyone say that one thing leaders should do is … LEAD!!!! Seems like a no brainer but if it was, more leaders would do it!!

There is no doubt that people, regardless as to whether they are leaders or not, hurt people. And most of us that are leaders and being led are not really putting unrealistic expectations on leaders, we just want them to be real and “strive” to live a life of integrity. If I know my leader is daily working out his salvation with God, I can deal with his weaknesses and failures. But there are many leaders that put themselves up on a very high pedestal, or their people put them up on a very high pedestal, which they will inevitably fall off of. We must learn to lead God’s people as servants and not as rulers. If we serve as Jesus did, we will be able to bring trust back into the relationship between church leadership and the people we serve. Just a thought….
