She’s My Daughter and I’ll Say It If I Want To!!!

October 8, 2010 by Joey Hughes Leave a Comment

Well, it’s after midnight and I just finished helping my daughter pack all her stuff in a trailer. She’s moving into her own place tomorrow.

Though this is not the first time she has “stretched her wings,” I have to say, I am very happy for her and proud of the place she is in with her life.

With that said, I must also say I never get used to this. I know that God has an amazing plan for her life and that He holds her in the palm of His hand, but I still have a hard time with this “letting go” thing.

Maybe this will go down as the corniest or mushiest blog I have written or will ever write but, hey! It’s my blog! Right!

So, let me take this moment to say to you, my lovely, beautiful daughter…

I love you!
I am proud of you!
I pray Gods best for you in this new season!
and last, but not least…
We will miss you being here!

Whew!!! There you go! The mushy, corny, teary-eyed, “dad” side of Joey Hughes!!!

Would you be mad if I told you she’s only moving across town???

I feel Ya! With a daughter also just across town, and just down the street from yours, and a son so… far away in Honduras, I too am proud yet at times a bit anxious.

I realize though, that “I don’t have their key!” We love them and wish we could do all of the directing of their steps, however, God loves them far more. He has the ultimate plan, “The BEST plan, the FAR BETTER PLAN” It is kinda weird, no, kinda silly, no, perhaps scary that they are moving independently toward the plans for their life, and I am standing with handfuls of opportunity, without the knowing of what to do with it.

All that said, we may have all of these jumbled, mushy, slobbering feelings inside for our children, and they are perfectly right to have. Ultimately, we have only to leave them(our children) to/with THE SOURCE-GOD, he is for them.

We do indeed love our children. I feel Ya!

Ok this made me tear up! 🙂 You are such a good person and dad! I will never forget Total Abandonment the first year you were teaching a class on worship and you said when Jordan wanted your attention she would crawl up into your lap and grab your face and make you look her in the eyes and that’s how it is with us and God! 🙂 Thanks for all you do and I think your mushy side is AWESOME!
