Are We Leading To Or Distracting From…

February 15, 2012 by Joey Hughes 2 Comments

One of the most difficult things I face as a worship leader is the constant question of “Am I truly leading people to an encounter with the grace and presence of God or am I distracting them from it altogether?”

What are some things that worship leaders do that distract you from real worship?

Try your best to be nice… we are emotional people, ya know!

What I see to be distracting is worship leaders who try too hard, who yell as loud as they can to get your attention, when in fact, its ruining the whole flow. Leading worship isn’t rocket science. To lead worship effectively, I believe that we as the worship leader should have a personal worship experience as well. Allow God to show us things, allow Him to take over the leading and you become the vessel. I don’t want to be seen, I don’t want to be heard… I want the Holy Spirit to lead. I don’t want people to be looking at me for guidance, I want them to seek out the Holy Spirit for guidance. Like I said before, I’m just a vessel, I am nothing. I would love to have a worship service where the band isn’t even seen. This will kind of “force” people to search within their own hearts instead of relying on a team on a stage to take them to the Holy Place. Just some things that have been burning on my heart lately! 🙂

Thanks for the comments Jeremiah. It is so true that we are all just vessels for God to use. It’s an overwhelming desire of my heart to be a worshiper and seeker of His presence in my life first and then allow Him to make me the leader He wants me to be.

      Great thoughts!

      Thanks.
