I’m really going to show my age on this one…
Do you remember the song “Rose Garden” written by Joe South in 1968 and made popular by Lynn Anderson two or three years later?
Here is an excerpt from the chorus of that song:
“I beg your pardon, I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine, There’s gotta be a little rain sometimes.”
These words have been ringing in my head for a day or so.
Many times, we Christians believe that, since we belong to God and have made Jesus the Lord of our lives, we should never experience anything that is uncomfortable. We believe that we are in some sort of exclusive “club” where everything is always pleasant and easy.
The reality is, however, that we are not exempt from trouble. We do not posses some magical “get out of trouble free” card that we can play whenever we find ourselves in uncomfortable situations
Matthew 5:45 says this “that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
In other words, trouble comes to us all. Whether it comes through relationships, finances, or even our health, we will experience trouble. But wait! We Christians DO have something up our sleeve… JESUS!!! He said in John 16:33,”These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
Has there been a time when you felt that everything was turning against you? Has there been a time when you wondered “What did I do to deserve this?” Or maybe you’ve said these famous words: “I’ve been doing everything I know to do and now this…?”
How did you handle it? How did God prove Himself faithful? How did you “Take Heart?”
Let’s talk… tell us your stories and be an encouragement to someone…
